New work : Tree Farm Series # 21

A little pick me up on a crappy Friday

You Might know the Dap Kings from Amy Winehouse's music, but, more amazingly they play with Sharon Jones.  Sharon and the Dap Kings were the perfect pick me up today, although I listened to a lot of music in my studio today, this song stood out. Thought I'd share for anyone feeling a little sluggish from the crappy weather coming our way (in Ottawa at least).

I completed the 36 x 36, Tree Farm Series # 21, and it's now posted in Artwork 2011-2012.  I'm now working on the 48 x 36 and I'm trying some new stuff, so we'll see what happens.  I haven't applied for any shows or anything, so I can still allow myself to experiment with this series.

Tonight I might be going to Patrick Mikhail Gallery to see a show by Michele Provost and Scott Everingham.  It's titled "Creative Fictions" and promises to be a great combination of work.

So, don't let the weather get you down ! There's also a fashion show on bikes going at Ottawa City Hall tomorrow called Velo Vogue, I believe it takes place at 3pm.  Cute much !

Work in progress : 36 x 36

One foot in front of the other

That's what my niece wrote on her sign, cheering for my husband and I during our 1/2 marathon on Sunday.  Waiting for us about 13 to 14 km into our 21 km, that was good advice.

I ran mine in 2:08, which, I was a little disappointed, but then I remembered that my goal had been to run it in between 2:00 and 2:15.  My next race will be the Army 1/2 in Ottawa in mid September, and I will beat that time.

I'm in the studio tonight but started late so no picture of that new 36 x 36, it'll have to wait 'til Wednesday. Unless someone would like to run to the store and buy me some brand new lighting for the studio ? No ? Meh, didn't think so.

Above are picture of me and my husband enjoying our post-race hamburgers from the Hintonburger.  They. Were. Awesome. And, I know everyone likes to see pictures of people pigging out.

Don't think twice, it's Alright...

Yesterday was Bob Dylan's birthday. Now, I'm not going to pretend I'm a huge Bob Dylan fan, I like his music, love some of his songs, but I don't "know" Bob Dylon, you know ?

But I do love the Leftover Cuties and they've done an awesome cover of "Don't Think Twice it's Alright". I've ordered their new EP and it's in the mail, which means I'll be getting it in 4-6 weeks (it's coming all the way from California), but thankfully I have the digital album so I've enjoyed covers of Coldplay, Eta James, Regina Spektor and even Lady Gaga.  I don't even know Gaga's music, don't have much interest in it, but I do love this cover.

It was a very productive week in the studio, almost done one 36 x 36 and working on the 48 x 36.  The first is different somehow, the way I drew my wood pile is a little different, is much less static that my other works.  I'll probably post pictures early next week. Today I am unfortunately not in my studio but at work at my "day job".

On Sunday I have my 1/2 marathon which means I'll be taking next week off running, which means  more time in the studio.
